But society does not offer such freedoms, and so he learned to accept the life that was chosen for him.
He carries the weight of a family that depends on him: a mother slowly finding her way out of mourning after the loss of her husband, a sister whom society has quietly written off as a spinster, and a younger brother still searching for his place in the world.
His future, unlike that of his peers, had been sealed by his own hand. He was the judge and silent prisoner of his verdict, resigned to the mundane repetitions of the ton—until she arrived. Miss Isabella Belmont
Miss Isabella Belmont grew up in the gilded salons of Paris, far removed from the drawing rooms of English society. “Thomas…” she breathed, her resolve faltering as she tried, in vain, to push him away.
But he heard her, and at the sound of his name, he surrendered to the pull in his heart and extended his little finger toward hers, carefully, reverently.
She exhaled, as though she could not contain the air within her, a flush rising to her cheeks. She tried to steady her breathing when his hand closed around hers with the utmost gentleness.
“You deserve a gentleman who would give you the world,” he whispered, his finger brushing hers in a barely-there caress.
Her heart was in her throat. She was certain he could hear its frantic beat. Heat unfurled low in her belly. She lifted her gaze to his, meeting eyes, stormy, aching.
“And who might this gentleman be?” she asked quietly.
For a long moment they merely looked at one another, two hearts beating with fierce intensity, and then, in defeat, he looked away. A searing heat flooded her cheeks, and a sickening wrenching tore through her belly. She nodded, almost to herself.
It would not be him.

I write emotionally layered historical romance set against the elegance of Regency society.
My stories explore the fractures beneath perfection, the tension between control, shame, and desire, and the slow, often painful path toward healing.
In my world, Regency London is not a romantic ideal, but a beautifully constructed stage where human wounds are revealed rather than softened. The Unlettered Lord is my debut novel and the first in the Chronicles of Grosvenor Square series.
